Movie Review: My Ex and Whys

Were not very fond of local movies especially the romantic ones. But we do watch them occasionally. And sometimes we come across a movie that really gets to us.

Yes, we know, that’s not very supportive of us for our country’s movie industry but we have to be honest, it’s very rare to find a really good locally produced movie in the Philippines nowadays.
Anyway, we watched My Ex and Why’s which stars Enrique Gil and Liza Soberano because of the following reasons:

1. It’s our Valentine’s day date so a romantic movie seems apt for the occasion.

2. We didn’t want to watch the other movies like John Wick 2 even if it’s a good one just because the mood doesn’t seem to be right for an action suspense movie. We also didn’t want to watch Fifty Shades Darker because I’ve heard bad reviews and we really did not enjoy Fifty Shades of Grey before.

3. My boyfriend likes Liza Soberano.

4. I like Enrique Gil.

5. The trailer was really catchy and it seems interesting enough.

So moving on to our review, we have to say that we REALLY enjoyed it.

The story line was actually pretty common. Typical “my Ex cheated on me and he broke my heart when I trusted him and now he’s asking to get back together but I’m still a bitter bitch.” Sorry for the word.

But what makes it stand out in our opinion were the punch lines and the hint of comedy in it.

We were expecting it to be a bit sad and dramatic what with the issue that it was tackling, but it was actually really light and funny. Everyone in the theater was laughing from beginning to the end.

The actors like Joross Gamboa, Joey Marquez, Ryan Bang, Arlene Muhlach and many others gave us a lot of laughs with their jokes. Liza and Enrique did well too, especially Liza who turned out to be really good in comedic acts.

The movie also taught us a few important lessons in life. It was able to show the effect of Social Media to our personal lives, which is very much fitting these days.

It has also taught us the importance of trust in any relationship.

But more importantly, it sent us the message that we should learn how to forgive and take risks especially in love because there really is no guarantee that you’ll never get hurt in the process.

Overall, we were very happy with this movie and we recommend that you watch it if you haven’t seen it yet. But if you have watched it already, please share your thoughts in the comments below. We’d love to know what you think about it as well.

Thank you so much for your time! Till our next post! Bye!

Liez💋 and Jerii👌
